In 1793, the prison where counter-revolutionaries waiting to be shot in the city gathered witnessed a strange wedding. Two Lonely People bring together two helpless suffering people. While the scream that breaks from one's heart is reciprocated in the other's, they unknowingly end each other's years of loneliness. Wondrak is one of the author's anti-war works. A woman, who was constantly ridiculed for her ugliness in a small city in Bohemia, clung to life thanks to the child she gave birth to after being raped, but due to the outbreak of the First World War, they took her son into the military and took him away from him. In these stories, Zweig analyzes the human condition through his characters pushed out of society. What happens to their characters is not fate, but the result of humanity's bankruptcy. Show more
