- The Black Terror emerges from the annals of comic book history as a character deeply rooted in the Golden Age of Comics, a time when superheroes burst onto the scene to combat the evils of the world. Created by Richard E. Hughes (under the pseudonym Curtis Steele) and artist Don Gabrielson, The Black Terror made his debut in Exciting Comics #9 in January 1941, published by Nedor Comics.The character's origins mirror the zeitgeist of his era. Originally, The Black Terror was pharmacist Bob Benton, who discovered a chemical formula called formic ethers, which granted him superhuman strength, invulnerability, and the power to heal rapidly. Using his newfound abilities, he donned a mask and cape to fight crime, corruption, and injustice.What set The Black Terror apart was his gritty approach to crime-fighting. Unlike some of his contemporaries, he didn't shy away from violence or intimidation when dealing with criminals. Armed with his strength and a fierce determination, he became a formidable force against the criminal underworld.Throughout the Golden Age, The Black Terror starred in his own series, battling a rogues' gallery of villains ranging from mob bosses to mad scientists.
