This Barbados Cherry is a plant that is non-GMO and is grown by the vendor without the use of any chemical or unnatural pest control methods. The plant is not self-pollinating and planting the tree next to another cherry tree will not help to pollinate it. Information should be available through the local county extension service to know the best cherry tree variety for effective pollination. Barbados cherry grows well in pots, and if the temperature gets too low or a hard freeze occurs, the plants can come back from a light freeze as long as they are mulched. The plant grows to a mature size of 20 feet wide and 20 feet tall and produces small edible fruits. It flourishes in limestone or clay soil and is well-suited to cultivation as a landscape hedge. It is recommended to water trees weekly until they are well-established, and Barbados cherry trees should be protected from severe cold weather.
