These bits make a mess on modern studs without nails and have become more of a special purpose tool that should be used for renovation projects with old wood and hand-driven nails. Although they can drill through nails and screws easily, they require some muscle behind the drill to punch through, and the wings aren't aggressive enough once the threaded portion is through the wood.
