The straw does not need to have a hole poked in it, and the bottle cannot be used with 4 oz. bottles. The sippy straw bottles have been reviewed positively by many customers. They love that it doesn't spill and is great for on-the-go. Some people found it difficult to get milk out of the bottle and wouldn't recommend it. One customer said that they wouldn't buy anything from Dr. Brown's again. However, many other customers found the product to be great and use it from the time their child is 6 months old even up to 2 years old.
