It can be used in both gas and diesel 2001-2005 pickups or 5 Speed Kodiak/TopKick trucks with an Allison Transmission. You'll love the convenience and control it brings to your driving experience. Operating the Tap Shifter is a breeze. Simply press the "-" button to downshift or the "+" button to upshift.
The Tap Shifter allows you to select a range with the shift lever and then tap up and down without worry of accidentally shifting to a higher range. This feature is especially useful for sled pullers who want to avoid shifting to 4th gear on the track. The Tap Shifter also comes with a range of great features. It offers easy plug and play installation, limits up-shifts, disables overdrive, and allows for command downshifts.
It's designed to decrease gear hunting and improve overall performance. Installation takes about an hour and is straightforward, but beware of accidentally shifting gears if you rest your wrist on the shift lever while using the radio controls. One customer had their TCM flashed to enable OD lockout and everything works great now. Some customers received no instructions with their product, but were able to find instructional videos online. Overall, users recommend the Dorman shift boot to be replaced while installing this product.
