It can be installed to open up or down, although it is suggested that it opens upwards to prevent bending of the connecting hose. The item is 3inx5in, the same as a standard light switch plate, and has screws that are 3 7/8" apart. Some customers have reported issues with the screws stripping and the plastic being too fragile. Therefore, caution is necessary when handling the screws.
