The product is suitable for grinding corn for grits but cannot hull buckwheat. It can finely grind nixtamalized corn for tortillas. Although the equipment is basic and makes the process of grinding grain easier than using a mortar and pestle, it can produce sharp edges on the auger-thread, which could harm user's hands. The main rotating grinder has not been properly machined to fit the auger thread, affecting the consistency of the grind and requiring additional file or sanding work to resolve. In spite of its faults, many users prefer this grain grinder to electric equivalents, particularly for grinding natural herbs for teas and making home-made bread. It is also much more stable than electric models, although there have been some issues with the grinder unit becoming stuck with heavy use. The product is sturdy and well-built with the benefit of being made of all stainless steel. When the unit functions correctly, it can grind multiple grains at one time.
