It does an excellent job of picking up even the finest of debris, including sand and silt, leaving the pool looking spotless. However, it is important to note that the canister can clog easily when there is a lot of debris, so it is recommended to clean the canister after every use. Also, if there is a lot of dirt and leaves, it is not recommended to use the ultra-fine canister and to use the general-purpose or leaf canister that Polaris makes. Although it may be a bit expensive, the Zodiac Polaris Ultra Fine Sand/Silt Canister is a worthwhile investment for a clean and clear pool.
