What is Vibra-TITE 440 Hydraulic and Pneumatic Anaerobic Thread Sealant used for?

Vibra-TITE 440 is designed to seal hydraulic and pneumatic threaded connections, preventing leaks in fluid systems. It withstands high pressures and a range of temperatures, making it ideal for applications with varying conditions. For instance, you can use it in automotive engines, hydraulic systems, and air compressors to ensure a secure seal that protects against fluid loss and air ingress.

How does Vibra-TITE 440 work as a sealant?

Vibra-TITE 440 works by undergoing anaerobic curing, which means it seals threaded metal fittings when deprived of air. Once applied between two threads, it polymerizes to form a strong bond that fills gaps and prevents leakage. This property ensures a tight fit that is essential for maintaining pressure in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, providing reliability and durability in demanding environments.

Is Vibra-TITE 440 safe to use on all metals?

Yes, Vibra-TITE 440 is compatible with various metals, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Since it creates a secure bond without affecting the metal's integrity, you can confidently use it in scenarios where mixed metals are present. This feature is particularly beneficial in automotive and industrial applications, where different material types may be involved.

Can Vibra-TITE 440 be used on plastic threads?

Vibra-TITE 440 is primarily formulated for metals, and it may not perform as effectively on plastic threads. For projects involving plastic components, consider using a product specifically designed for plastics. Using the right sealant ensures optimal sealing performance and prevents damage to the materials.

How long does it take for Vibra-TITE 440 to cure?

Vibra-TITE 440 typically begins to set within a few minutes, achieving functional strength in approximately several hours. Complete curing can take longer, depending on the materials and environmental conditions. This quick setting time allows you to effectively manage your project's timeline, making it an excellent choice for emergency repairs or regular maintenance tasks.

What are the temperature limits for Vibra-TITE 440?

Vibra-TITE 440 is designed to withstand temperatures ranging from -65°F to 300°F (-54°C to 149°C). This wide temperature range makes it suitable for various applications, including those encountered in automotive and industrial settings. Whether you’re working in extreme cold or heat, this sealant maintains its effectiveness, ensuring reliable performance.

Can Vibra-TITE 440 be removed once applied?

While Vibra-TITE 440 creates a strong bond, it can be removed by applying heat and twisting the connection. The heat softens the polymer, allowing for disassembly. This feature is important for maintenance and repairs, letting you service your equipment without damaging threads or components, thus ensuring a longer lifespan for your fittings.

Is Vibra-TITE 440 resistant to chemicals?

Yes, Vibra-TITE 440 has excellent resistance to a variety of chemicals, including oils, fuels, and refrigerants. This chemical resistance is crucial for maintaining the integrity of hydraulic and pneumatic systems in industrial contexts, where exposure to harsh substances is common. It's a reliable choice for preventing leaks in environments where chemicals are prevalent.

What is the viscosity of Vibra-TITE 440?

Vibra-TITE 440 has a medium viscosity, which makes it easy to apply and ensures it fills gaps effectively during use. The ideal consistency allows for controlled application without excessive dripping or running, making it suitable for precise jobs in automotive or industrial settings where accuracy is essential.
