The Elitech RC-5 USB Temperature Data Logger is a 10 pack reusable recorder that can record temperature readings every 10 seconds to every 12 hours. The device has an internal thermometer that takes some time to acclimate to the air temperature, but once it does, it can keep up with minor temperature changes. The device has a calibration function on the software and is compatible with Mac and Windows, but not Linux. It cannot operate in a 100% high humidity environment. The data logger has an external temperature probe unit with a magnetic mount for the electronics unit with a display, not the probe at the end. Users can start recording by pressing the triangle button for 4 seconds, which clears all the previous logs, and the screen will show a solid triangle symbol, which indicates it is recording. Users can download data while it is recording without interrupting the record and can chart two loggers data and overlap each other on the same graphic. Customers have used the device to monitor pump house temperature, shipments of food and other goods that need to be kept cold, monitor temperature in rooms in which the air conditioning or heating may have problems, and measure precise temperature of incubation cycles in experiments. The device helped a customer diagnose a low refrigerant level in their freezer. The device is easy to use, and the reports are easy to understand. However, the recorder responds slowly to larger changes in temperature and is a bit slow for more dynamic environments. The device is accurate, and the software to plot data is excellent but the instructions were vague for some customers.
