However, it is necessary to use a smoother paper, such as hot press watercolor paper or Strathmore Bristol card stock, to achieve optimal results. The pencils are also great for experimenting with different color blending combinations. A recommended method is to start with the 168 Earth Green Yellowish and 173 Olive Green Yellowish pencils and build from there. When it comes to sharpening the pencils, it is not recommended to use an electric sharpener, as it can quickly eat away at the pencil. Instead, a manual rotary sharpener, such as the Carl Angel-5 or Dahle 133 rotary, or the Faber Castell silver triangular sharpener, with its three-hole sizes, will give an amazing long fine tip with minimal waste. If the pencil tip becomes dull, rub it on fine sandpaper board or use a blending stick. The Faber Castell Albrecht Durer Watercolor Pencil Set Tin also comes with a Tombow colorless blender that can be used without destroying quality books.
