The Intel NUC 7 Essential Desktop Computer is an excellent compact PC for light work and online classes. The PC comes with Windows 10 S mode, which can be upgraded to full Windows 10 Home or 11. The PC includes 4GB RAM and 64 GB EMMC, making it adequate for light use. The PC has no fan noise and no heat, even with a full load. The interval WiFi card provides decent coverage, though a good external dongle significantly improves 5 GHz performance. The editorial review suggests upgrading RAM to 8GB and adding a good SSD, making the PC suitable for browsing, YouTube, MS Office, and even some light "dev" type tasks. However, the PC is not fit for heavy work, such as video editing, heavy coding work with multiple VMs/containers, and the user should not expect Core i3/i5 level performance. The internal eMMC data transfer is slow, but it's suggested to buy an SSD for additional storage and HDD for storage. Clean up old files to increase free space to 25+ GB. Additionally, the PC slows down Considerably after upgrading to Windows 11, but adding 4GB RAM makes it smooth again. Booting issues might occur while installing Ubuntu Linux, and the PC can't handle HDD internally. The PC is a great buy for a Windows 11 experience.
