The New Pig Original Absorbent Socks are designed to absorb oil, water, solvents, and coolants. These pig socks are a formable sock that hugs corners and surrounds bases of equipment, walls or floors, to absorb leaks and contain small puddles. These socks are made of polypropylene skin and have a filler of ground-up corn cob. The sock is not designed to be reused, and the filler can grow mold or mildew. It is best to determine when it is time to change the sock when it is no longer absorbing liquid. There are different types of pig socks with different fillers that vary based on application. The PIG Blue sock, for instance, has a Vermiculite filler and can absorb coolants, oils, water and solvents. Whereas, the PIG Yellow sock has a Polypropylene filler and is mildew resistant. Each sock can absorb up to 64 oz. per sock. The New Pig Original Absorbent Sock can be used to absorb and dike water; however, it is recommended to use it indoors only. The absorbent sock does not have any UV resistance, and the outer material will begin to degrade in 1-2 weeks. Therefore, removing the sock from in front of the garage door before exiting as one cannot drive over the product without damaging it. Based on customer reviews, there seems to be a mixed reception of the product. Some customers have complained that the sock is not full of absorbent material or doesn't work as well as previous purchases, whereas others have found them very useful in preventing water from entering their garage and basements.
