It can be used to protect against scratches and dust on the sub unit of the L1 Pro8 system, but it falls short of expectations for a protective cover. Given the high cost of the Bose L1 Pro8 system, it's surprising that the slip cover is so basic and not included as part of the system. Other Bose products come with a better quality cover, such as the one that comes with the L1 Compact.
