The sharpener is quiet and has a 120v wall outlet, and it can last in a classroom or home setting for a while. The triangular Dixon Ticonderoga pencils fit in the sharpener snugly, but holding pencils vertically and allowing the sharpener to sharpen it is the only way to use the sharpener properly. The sharpener has a motor-stopping system, preventing already-sharpened pencils from being cut again. However, the system itself doesn't work well, with a 50% fail rate for sharpening pencils. Pencils are often sharpened off-center, and the sharpener produces pencil shavings that make a mess. Moreover, the sharpener itself stopped working after a few months or a year, and the automatic shut-off function tends to break very quickly.
