VARIOUS ARTISTS (Artist) Format: Audio CD Rap & Hip-Hop 17080624 Editorial Review

**** Rick Ross Presents: Self Made, Vol. 1 has garnered an enthusiastic reception from hip-hop fans, particularly those who appreciate the Maybach Music Group's vibe. Many listeners express their enjoyment of the album, highlighting that nearly all tracks keep their heads nodding, a rarity in today's music scene. Fans of Rick Ross, Meek Mill, and Wale find their contributions compelling, with tracks like "Self Made" and "Pandemonium" receiving specific praise for their energetic beats and engaging hooks. The compilation format, featuring various artists from the label, has resulted in mixed opinions about the overall sound of the album. While some songs are acknowledged for their "banging beats," others fall flat, described as repetitive or lacking substance. Remarks made by listeners indicate that while they are entertained by the upbeat production, they also crave more diversity and lyrical depth, with some feeling that the focus on bravado can overshadow the artistry. Notably, Wale emerges as a standout talent on the project, with listeners commending his improved wordplay and smart lyricism. While the audio experience is perceived as solid enough for casual listening, particularly in a summer setting, some critique the formulaic nature of the beats and hooks that eventually detract from the album's staying power. Despite these critiques, fans believe the album has its merits, and many express interest in exploring subsequent volumes. **
