Helicoil Spark Plug Thread Repair Kits Editorial Review
The spark plug repair kit has a recess in the head that allows for easy use in deep, narrow spark plug wells. The chaser threads are the standard 14mm size that pull the cutting threads into the head material. The kit includes a piloted tap, expanding tool, and three inserts (short, normal and long reaches). It helps repair the 14mm spark plug threads in the head that are damaged. However, it is not easy to use for beginner technicians. RTV is recommended for the threads, but users suggest using Permatex sleeve retainer or red Loctite. Top rim is not available in the kit, making it difficult to know when they are threaded deep enough. The kit is compatible with Ford Expedition 2001 4.6L, Ford F150 2004 4.6L, 2007 Acura TL (suggests watching youtube video for used case). The additional inserts can be easily obtained in local auto parts stores. The kit has received mixed reviews from customers, but for most of them, it worked perfectly.
