Multigenerational Editorial Review
The book Wish by Barbara O'Connor tells the story of Charlie Reese, a young girl from a broken family who is sent to live with her aunt and uncle in a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains. While struggling to control her anger and Constantly making wishes that never seem to come true, she makes friends with a boy named Howard and takes in a stray dog she names Wishbone, learning many lessons along the way. Customers who have read the book recommend it for young readers, with one customer mentioning that it is perfect for 4th graders and a current version of Because of Winn Dixie. Many also enjoyed the book's themes of family, friendship, and love, while others appreciated the descriptions of nature and the messages throughout the book. Overall, Wish appears to be a well-written and thoughtful middle grade novel that has resonated with readers and encourages discussion and reflection on important issues.
