Please note that compatibility with other manufacturers' acetylene regulators should be verified prior to use. This adapter opens up a world of possibilities for your welding projects.
The Uniweld 71 welding handle and Type17 weld/braze tips are fully compatible with either propylene or propane fuel gas combined with oxygen. The CA550 cutting attachment can also be used with either fuel gas, although it's important to remember that the cutting tip is fuel specific and must be changed accordingly. Additionally, Uniweld's Cap'n Hook tips are fuel specific. For optimal performance and safety, we recommend using grade T hose (part# H32AT) with propylene or propane fuel gas.
If you choose to use grade R hose (part# H32A), please avoid extremely cold temperatures below -10 degrees F as this may cause the fuel gas to liquefy and damage the internal hose material. After each use, it's essential to bleed off any remaining fuel gas in the hose. Please note that there will be noticeable performance and temperature differences when using propylene (MAP//Pro) compared to acetylene. Propylene burns at 5193 degrees F with an oxy/fuel ratio of 3.5 - 1, while acetylene burns at 5589 degrees F with a 1-1 oxy/fuel ratio.
Propane burns at 4579 degrees F with a 4 - 1 oxy/fuel ratio. It's important to be aware of these differences when planning your welding projects. For brazing 3/8 and 7/8 copper line sets, we highly recommend using a Type17-3 or larger tip to achieve the best results.
