The Cadco KR-1 Portable Cast Iron Hot Plate is a great option for home canning, heating dishes, and cooking. However, it's important to note that the hot plate may struggle with large pressure canners and it's recommended to keep anything over 4-6 quarts of liquid and 1 inch over the size of the element off of the plate. The KR-1 is a single burner, and the KR-S2 hot plate is a double burner. The KR-1 can heat up to about 450 degrees Fahrenheit, but it goes on and off. The unit is not commercial grade, but it's still a reliable option for home use. One customer reported that the KR-1 was slow in heating up and preferred a portable butane stove instead. However, another customer confirmed that they had successfully used a 23-quart Presto canner on the Kr-1 after a few test runs.
