The Pentax DA * 300mm F4 ED (IF) SDM is an excellent telephoto lens, superior to zoom lenses due to its sharpness and F4 maximum aperture. However, it is a bit heavy, so a tripod or monopod could be helpful. When bought, it includes a lens hood, front and rear lens caps, and a lined nylon cloth case with Velcro closure. The lens gathers more light than other lenses and performs well beyond the capacity of similarly priced lenses and comparable to much more expensive lenses from Nikon, Sony, and Canon. Some reviewers have found that the lens can hunt a little and require a tripod in some situations.
