The Sentinel has backup power, but in case of power outage, the Ethernet Switch, router, and modem require backup power to send alerts. The device requires a temp sensor accessory to monitor temperature set points. The relay output of the device can be used for remotely triggering switches or alarms and can be used with certain types of thermostats to alternate between the two set points. The monthly cost for premium service in the ethernet model is $6.
