The clip is removable but if it falls off, return it to Cold Steel for great customer service. The knife has no spring assisted opening so it opens manually, and although razor-sharp, the blade movement from the closed position is sluggish and tight. The blade is scalpel-like, but is too short for self-defense and rapid deployment. The blade’s sharpness is best suited for fine cutting like fishing line, rope, cardboard, woodcarving, etc. It is not a heavy-duty work knife but can be used for cutting 550 cord, netting, and small vines when camping. The knife’s sport and clip style blades come to a sharper point, specifically good for stabbing. The tanto is better suited for penetration of armor than utility.
