Quantum Theory Editorial Review
The book "Information: The New Language of Science" is a good but not great introductory book aimed at the lay person who knows little about information theory. The book does a decent job of explaining the basic concepts of modern thinking about information, including classical entropy, the Second Law of Thermodynamics, Claude Shannon's revolutionary reformulation of the problem and modern concepts of qubits. However, there are several key omissions, such as failing to address the Uncertainty Principle and to discuss the relationship of entropy to information by relying on loose terms like "form." The book is best in its overall presentation of the paradoxes that quantum mechanics created regarding information, and the discussion of quantum interference is the strongest point of the book. Still, it does not effectively explain the qubit concept without the use of mathematics. The book is recommended for a beginner who is not familiar with the basics, but readers who already possess some knowledge in the subject matter should look for more complex and detailed books.
