This folding shelf bracket is easy to install and is great for adding extra counter space, a shelf or a table. It is not recommended to be used as a keyboard table, as it cannot slide in and out like a drawer. Customers have reported that it can be installed outside and used upside down to prop something up. The 16" bracket can hold a 2'x4' peice of 3/4" plywood surface with a small but heavy vice attached to one end. Each bracket is mounted to a 2x4 which allows room for a small shelf before the top. The shelf support portion essentially folds into the piece you attach to the wall, so when in the closed (down) position it extends about 3/4" from that, plus the thickness of your shelf, which can be around 2-3". It can be locked in only one position, 90 degrees. Some customers have reported that the 10" brackets are sturdier and thicker metal than the 16" ones which rattle a lot after being mounted. These brackets are not made of stainless steel and are not very strong, so they may not be suitable for everyone's needs.
