They have just enough softness to prevent vibrations from traveling up one's arms and are like little ATV tires. The tips are easy to apply, and when one side starts to wear down, it is possible to rotate the tips slightly. One side of the tip has ribs that offer added traction, making them more stable than other tips available on the market. They are excellent for hiking on uphill and downhill trails. They also have a metal disk inside that keeps the pole's tip from penetrating the rubber and several rubber protrusions that offer nice cushioned pole-planting. However, some customers have reported that the tips slip a bit more than they'd like over thick, gravel-like dirt.
