The DeWalt DWP849X rotary polisher is a powerful, solidly built buffer and polisher. However, it is not recommended for beginners to use on actual cars without practice on junk yard panels. It has a spindle thread of 5/8"-11 and does have a soft start. The variable speed dial allows the user to set the speed from zero to 600/3500 RPM for various materials and applications. It is not designed to be a grinder but is great for polishing vehicles and buffing out; it's also used for polishing marble and granite wet. DeWalt is known for making great products, and the DWP849X has a precise speed setting and is heavy-duty. A few reviewers mentioned that the soft start doesn't work properly, that it is heavy, and product slings off toward its surroundings.
