The API Master Test Kit is a much more accurate way to test your aquarium or pond water than with strips. It comes with tests for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, low and high pH, and can be used for both saltwater and freshwater. The liquid solutions are the same for salt and fresh, but the color cards that you use to compare your test to are slightly different. It does not include a water-hardness tester. The nitrate test requires 10 drops of each solution, and there are about 20 drops in a ml and 30ml in each bottle, which equates to about 60 tests for the nitrate. This amounts to less than a year of testing depending on how frequently you test. It's a great product and easy to use with clear instructions. However, some testers have pointed out that if you use the full set of products frequently, you will quickly run out of the ammonia test and the nitrates test, as they take 8-10 drops compared to the pH test, which only takes 3 drops. The kit has one color card for all 5 major tests in the kit, and it does not come with test tubes. Overall, it's a great product and highly recommended for both newbies and seasoned fish owners.
