The monitor port is bidirectional, but packets that come to the tap on the monitoring port are discarded. The tap works as a bi-directional port mirror on a switch, which takes load off the switch, and it comes in handy in deep-diving into protocol analysis. Some customers have reported early problems due to a noisy voltage regulator chip and bad EEE default settings in the Broadcom switch chip. However, these issues have been fixed, and the product is very stable at this point.
