While it is not required for use, it does give babies the swaddling feeling that some prefer. The insert is made of 100% Polyester and is reversible. There isn't a maximum age or weight limitation for the insert, but it is typically used from birth up to 3-4 months, depending on the baby's preference. Customers have found the newborn insert helpful for holding small newborns in place and making newborns feel more comfortable. Some customers did find that the insert went flat and started slipping by month two which was disappointing. There was also feedback that for the price, the head support should be better as it didn't do anything for some infants.
