To avoid any damage, you should preheat the skillet for a good 5-10 minutes before adding food. The decorative trim and the bottom of the skillet should not be washed in a dishwasher, as it may cause discoloration. Also, the temperature knob gets hot, but it doesn't seem to do any harm.
