This special putty is intended for use on marble, granite, quartz, and Corian, unlike the regular Oatey Plumbers Putty, which is for porcelain. While it remains flexible and never gets hard, it can be painted over if needed. It's ideal for stopping water from leaking but might also help in stopping air from escaping—although not under pressure. The putty can be used to plug drainage holes, but since it never really hardens solid, it might be easily disturbed and wouldn't be an optimal permanent solution.
