The Stylophone GEN X-1 is a fun and versatile synthesizer that has received mixed reviews. Its speaker quality has been a source of disappointment for some but others find it to be a great standalone synth, best suited for beginners. There is no MIDI capability, but the device can be connected to a DAW or audio interface through the line input to record sounds. The stylus cable has a tendency to wear off but does not affect device usability. Additionally, the audio out can be weak and hard to balance, and there is a lot of static noise that goes along with it. The device is described to be stylish and hip, but not ideal for performing live due to its difficulty in getting accurate tuning. It has a tuning dial on the back that needs to be adjusted manually. The device requires four AA batteries for power and does not have Bluetooth capability or wireless stylus compatibility. The short cable of the stylus has also been criticised. The device is compact, lightweight and portable. Nevertheless, it is considered a great synth gift for synth nerds.
