Speedball Printmaking Inks Editorial Review

This ink is thick and not suitable for use with a paintbrush on fabric, instead a brayer is recommended for an even application. Mixing colours is possible with a pallet knife. The 'Opaque White' ink is less translucent and better for a solid white on dark fabrics. It is not recommended for use on an ink pad. It can be used with Tyvek but may not work if the Tyvek has a smooth texture. Oil-based inks can be used on a Gelli plate but caution needs to be taken as it can soften the plate. One customer found that the ink worked perfectly on a canvas tote bag as it didn't bleed, fade or wash out, and was happy with the pigment and smoothness. Another saw vibrant colours but found the ink wasn't fully opaque on a black t-shirt. The ink was praised for being incredibly opaque and great for linocut on fabric, however, it was found to dry quickly and become difficult to work with. It was reported to smell bad and dries up fast on the plate. The ink worked brilliantly for a customer's hand-carved stamps on fabric, it spread evenly, and the finished product was amazing. One customer was extremely disappointed as their ink exploded and made a mess.
