Ingersoll Rand Impact Wrenches 231C Editorial Review
The Ingersoll Rand 231C impact gun has received generally positive reviews from customers. However, there have been some complaints of the trigger getting stuck and the spring hanging up inside. The unit is manufactured in China, like many other tools sold in the USA, according to one user. Another user recommended the 1/2" Tekton sockets and extensions set. Moreover, an air connection needs oiling, and the impact requires 125 psi to get the maximum power. The torque changes as the CFM of the compressor and the size of the air hose change. The impact is designed to work no more than 90 psi. Some users have broken harmonic balancer bolts loose, over-tightened wheel nuts (up to 100 lb-ft of torque) by boosting compressor output to 100 psi. It is also noted that the impact gun produces a burst of 750 lbs-ft torque to bust nut/bolt loose and then settles into the 500 lbs-ft range to finish removing fasteners. There is no variable/adjustable speed on this impact wrench.
