What is the Leviton OSC20-M0W Ceiling Mount Occupancy Sensor?

The Leviton OSC20-M0W is a ceiling mount occupancy sensor designed to control lighting based on detected motion. Its advanced infrared technology ensures accurate detection of movement within its coverage area, making it ideal for commercial and residential applications. With its sleek white design, it seamlessly blends into ceilings, contributing to an unobtrusive aesthetic. Use it in hallways, offices, or conference rooms for enhanced energy efficiency and convenience, automatically turning lights on and off as needed.

How does the occupancy sensing technology work?

The OSC20-M0W uses passive infrared (PIR) detection to sense motion. It measures changes in infrared energy caused by the movement of people or objects. Once the sensor detects movement, it sends a signal to turn on the connected lights. This technology is beneficial in areas like storage rooms or restrooms, where hands-free lighting is advantageous. By using this sensor, users can reduce energy costs while maintaining security and accessibility.

What installation requirements are necessary for this sensor?

Installation of the Leviton OSC20-M0W requires a ceiling mount at least 8 to 10 feet above the floor for optimal performance. It is recommended for use in spaces no larger than 1,000 square feet under proper conditions. The wiring connections also need to be made according to electrical codes. Installation is suitable for light commercial or residential usage, such as in offices or hallways, where overhead lighting is common.

What is the detection range of the OSC20-M0W?

The OSC20-M0W features an impressive detection range of up to 30 feet in terms of the sensing radius, depending on the mounting height and surrounding environment. This makes it effective for large spaces like meeting rooms or warehouses. For optimal performance, ensure it is installed in a suitable environment, free from obstructions, to maximize the sensor's capabilities.

Can the OSC20-M0W be used outdoors?

The OSC20-M0W is specifically designed for indoor use and is not rated for outdoor environments. Utilizing it outside may lead to functionality issues due to environmental factors such as direct sunlight or precipitation. For outdoor spaces, consider using a sensor specifically designed for external conditions, such as patios or outdoor hallways, to ensure reliability and performance.

What types of bulbs are compatible with this sensor?

The Leviton OSC20-M0W is compatible with various types of bulbs, including LED, incandescent, and fluorescent. This versatility allows for integration with existing lighting systems in homes or businesses without the need for extensive changes. Utilizing energy-efficient LED bulbs with this sensor further enhances energy savings, especially in areas where lights are frequently used.

What are the standard settings for the sensor?

The OSC20-M0W comes with adjustable time delay and sensitivity settings. The time delay can be set anywhere from 30 seconds to 20 minutes, allowing for flexibility based on foot traffic patterns in a given area. Adjusting sensitivity ensures that the lights activate only when needed, making it effective in spaces with various levels of activity, such as storerooms or busy office environments.

Is this sensor compliant with any specific building codes?

The Leviton OSC20-M0W is designed to meet various national and local building codes, which are crucial for safety and functionality. However, it is always best to consult with a licensed electrician regarding compliance with local regulations during installation. This ensures that not only is the sensor correctly installed, but also that it adheres to required safety standards, especially in commercial settings.

How does the sensor benefit energy conservation?

By automating lighting based on occupancy, the OSC20-M0W significantly contributes to energy conservation. Users benefit by reducing instances of lights being left on unnecessarily, especially in seldom-used rooms like storage areas or break rooms. This easy control over lighting not only helps save on energy bills but also supports sustainability initiatives, making it an eco-friendly choice.
