Yamaha Production Stations GENOS Editorial Review
The Yamaha Genos is a keyboard that does not have internal speakers. Users must purchase additional speakers or run the output through a mixer and speakers. It is possible to upgrade voices and styles from Tyros 4 to the Genos. Expansion packs created for Yamaha PSR-SX900 may not be available for Genos. It is not dual voltage and cannot be used in Europe without a transformer. The keyboard weighs 13kg or approximately 28 lbs. The voices produced by the Genos are outstanding but usually require adjustments. The sequencer is an afterthought with limited editing capabilities, and the updates from Yamaha are sometimes not worth the hype. The Genos has a hefty price tag, but the quality of the instrument justifies the cost. The device is also complex, and users must spend time with the user manual. The initial touch switch and the fade in/out switch are not available on the Genos, and keys require a firm touch to obtain a full-voiced note.

- outstanding sound quality, flexibility, improvement in voices, expansion voices are easier to manage than the Tyros series, add-on speakers are available, additional keys compared to Tyros 4, dual voltage (unconfirmed), improved touch screen
Cons
- no internal speakers, hefty price tag, sequencer has limited editing capabilities, adjustments are normally required to get good quality sound, updates provided by Yamaha are sometimes not worth the hype, dual voltage (unconfirmed), initial touch and fade in/out switches are not available, keys require a firm touch
